I had an excellent Malaysian meal at the Hobart Sawak Cafe. Both the meal and the service were outstanding. I tried crispy fried wontons and spicy Char Kway Teow, and both are simply fantastic. I also tasted some great spicy sambal udon and satay skewers the following day. You should definitely put this Malaysian restaurant on your list of things to do when visiting Hobart.

After traveling around Tasmania for so long, we were really craving the taste of home—and this place delivered exactly what we were looking for. There was a bit of a wait since the shop is small and can’t accommodate too many people at once, but the service absolutely blew us away! The ladies serving us were so kind, and the speed at which the food came out was incredible. As for the food—the true star of the show—it was absolutely amazing! No words can do it justice; you just have to try it yourself, haha. My dad even took a photo of the owner cooking in the kitchen as a keepsake memory—such a wholesome moment!

During our 3 month stay in Hobart, me and my partner loved this restaurant! Great food, reasonable prices and lovely staff. My favorite laksa place! A little hard to get a table in the busy evenings, but reservations are possible. Take away was just as great. 10/10 recommend!

Located just around the corner from the rear entrance of the Centrepoint Arcade, this non-fussy eatery is a haven for inexpensive yet delicious Asian food that hits the spot in every way! From dumplings to Kway Teow, Sawak is a little taste of Malaysia right in the heart of Hobart.

Skybus wait turned into a café find. Variety of mains and sides, cozy seating (around 9 tables inside, 2 outside). Tastes good, portions are decent, prices behave.

It was at the point of our trip where we needed asian food and we needed it fast! Hobart is kinda tricky as many places were closed early in the week but we found it! A humble Malaysian restaurant. Honestly nothing humble about it, the flavours were explosive! We got the char kway teow, tom yum soup, roti and chicken legs (we were hungry from a big hike!). Price was excellent and food was both delicious and satisfying.

The food was incredible. Great flavour and good serving sizes. Absolutely delicious. The staff were very friendly. The space is small so best to book to ensure you get a table.

been here too many times. one of our favorites in town! char kwey teoy is definitely the pioneer! always the same taste every single time. only one downside is that the place is actually really small. most of the time we wont be able to get a place for dinner without reservation, unless you come literally at 5pm when they just open. but food are always so quick and amazing.

Fantastic food for a good price. We got the Nasi Lemak + Beef Rendang as well as the Laksa + Chicken for a total of under 40. The soup in the Laksa had a great mix of creaminess and spice and the chicken breast was tender and flavourful. The Nasi Lemak had a variety of sides that came with the coconut rice whilst the beef rendang was spiced to perfection! My only complaint would've been the rice portion and only three slices of cucumber, but that was only because there was so many different sides to complement!
